Inshore and Backcountry destinations
Inshore fishing means you are trolling the shallow waters “inside” Tampa Bay. When St Pete fishing charters take you “inshore”, it’s to the spots we know you can catch redfish, tarpon, snook and trout. You’ll have access to the hot spots of the Upper Tampa Bay, along the West Shore of Tampa, and down toward St Pete.
Backcountry fishing takes a skilled guide with the experience of your host, Captain Sean Tanner, who grew up fishing the backcountry flats. This is classic “hot spot” angling and he knows where the fish population is. Tides and wind make guiding this kind of trip the precision work that is his specialty.
- Both kinds of St Pete fishing charters destinations require a special boat that has been specially-designed for fishing in shallow waters. You’ll enjoy our Hewes Bayfisher 18, which is large enough to accommodate up to four people yet compact enough to get you in and out of the backcountry flats. The boat is intended for light tackle inshore fishing, and has no pole platforms.
- St Pete fishing charters always provide the tackle, ice, fishing licenses and all US Coast Guard approved safety equipment. Plus you travel with one of the safest, most knowledgeable Coast Guard licensed captains in the business.
- When you schedule your trip, ask about planning a day fishing both inshore and backcountry locations.

Big Tarpon, Big Sport
From May through August, you will catch Tarpon at most times of the day. A special pleasure is a night Tarpon trip, early or late in the season, which starts by April and lasts to November. Tarpon tease you. Once they take the bait, they’ll rear up out of the water as your reel emits the high-pitched squeal that means you’re in for a fun fight. Many, many of our guests catch tarpon with St Pete fishing charters, because your guide is a champion Tarpon fisher himself.
The tarpon are big in Tampa Bay. It won’t be long before someone on our boat hits the world record, 202 pounds!
